new maid salary ??

I HAVE been employing an Indonesian maid, paying her RM400 a month.

Last week I went to the Indonesian Embassy to renew her passport(New Indo T&C). An embassy staff member told me that the revised pay for Indonesian maids is RM600 a month.

He forced me to sign a new contract stipulating that I will pay her RM600 monthly. The staff member also told my maid that forthwith her pay would be RM600.

I understand that the Malay- sian and Indonesian authorities are negotiating new terms and conditions of service for maids and no final decision has been made. I therefore feel that the embassy officials are jumping the gun and enforcing the new pay on employers.

Employers in limbo over Indon maids

2009-08-04 14:58
KUALA LUMPUR: The uncertainty in getting Indonesian maids is causing much uneasiness among local working women who have grown dependent on them all these years.
A random Bernama survey revealed that many working women had taken leave to tend to their homes while others opted for part-time locals to help them out on weekends.
There were others who had enlisted the help of relatives or maids of friend's to temporarily overcome their predicament before getting their own maid.
Economist Noraini Majid, 39, sums up the frustration of affected housewives.
"I have already paid all the required fees to a local agent. Yet, I am unable to get a maid because Indonesia has suddenly imposed a temporary ban on the export of its maids.
"What is worse, we are not sure when the ban will be lifted. This uncertainty is really killing (me) because I just cannot plan anything and am now on a long leave to look after my two toddlers," she said. (Bernama)

Maid ban still pending

By LESTER KONG
PETALING JAYA: Indonesia has claimed that the delay in solving the maid issue is because of Malaysia’s insistence that a cost structure on wages and agency fees be agreed to beforehand.
Indonesian Embassy’s Informa-tion, Social and Cultural Affairs Minister Counsellor Widyarka Ryananta said his country’s position on the matter was that the issue be discussed during the joint working group meeting which was supposed to have been held on July 15.
To date, the meeting has not been held.
“We are of the view that all issues will be discussed at the joint working group meeting.
“We would like to clarify that the Indonesian Government has no intention of postponing the joint working group meeting with Malaysia in regards to Indonesian domestic workers,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Widyarka said that the temporary ban on the import of Indones-ian maids to Malaysia would remain until an outcome could be reached at the joint working group meeting.
The meeting of the joint working group was supposed to have been a follow-up to the meeting between Indonesian Manpower and Transmigration Minister Erman Suparno and Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam on July 6.
Human Resources Ministry sources told The Star that while the ministry was ready to hold the meeting, when it would be held was the prerogative of the Home Ministry.
“The cost structure proposed to the Indonesian Government is also under the purview of the Home Ministry especially on fees payable by the agencies there.
“Human Resources only deals with the welfare and remuneration of the maids,” sources said.
